Get ready to travel around the world without having to leave New Jersey. Starting on Tuesday, March 10, the International Education Council is hosting International Day with a spotlight on Spain and its culture.
On Tuesday, students can take part in Salsa dancing from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the SRC Atrium. At 4:30 p.m., a poetry reading featuring work by international writers will be held in the Fireside Lounge.
Following the poetry reading, at 6 p.m., Lisa Botalico, principal dancer and associate artistic director of the Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, will perform The Fire of Flamenco, along with Spanish guitar in the Fireside Lounge.
After this full day of events, students have the opportunity to continue to expand their horizons. At 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, students can participate in the international food night in the Gee Hall Lounge, sponsored by RISA and ASAR. On Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m. the Commuter Lounge will feature a special coffee house, sponsored by the Arts Management Association.
"If students are interested in studying abroad in Spain or anywhere they should stop by the Center for International Education to make an appointment. The CIE offers a variety of Spanish-speaking countries to choose from," says Kimberly Algeo, assistant director of the Center for International Education.
Dr. Villalobos-Buehner, the assistant professor of Spanish and world language education, is the coordinator of the event. "International Day is one of those unique opportunities where one can deepen their experiences of another culture and another language in a way that maybe can't do in the classroom.”
