This year, Rider's Chinese New Year celebration will be held on Friday, Feb. 20, from 4:30 to 7 p. m. in the Cavalla Room in the Bart Luedeke Center. This celebration will include a special dragon dance and multiple performances from various students on campus. There will also be authentic Chinese food, Bollywood dancing, song and snacks, and the opportunities for students to learn more about Chinese culture.
"We encourage all students, faculty and staff to attend the Chinese New Year festival, share in the Chinese culture and celebrate the year of the goat,” says Kim Algeo, assistant director for the Center for International Educatio, which is sponsoring the celebration with the Office of Campus Life.
Similar to its Western counterpart, the Chinese New Year celebrates new beginnings and renewal of life. 2015 is the year of the goat. Those born under this sign are said to be charming, creative, interested in nature and able to attract many admirers and friends.
