Interested students should attend to hear first-hand about experiences overseas
by Sam Rivera '15
On Thursday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Center for International Education will host its semi-annual Study Abroad Fair in the Student Recreation Center Atrium. This event gives students the chance to learn about studying, interning or volunteering overseas. Students can now travel to more than 50 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, the South Pacific, and Central and South America. About 12 of Rider’s study abroad providers will be on hand to explain what their programs offer and to share one-on-one information.
The fair presents students the opportunity to both explore different places they would like to visit and to give faculty the opportunity to promote their faculty-lead programs as well. This year, there will be three new faculty-lead programs for spring break 2016 in China, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
Other new offerings include programs to Cuba, Sweden, Denmark and an internship program in Dublin, Ireland. The Center for International Education is also flying out the Rider advisors from Austria and Spain who help students get the most out of their experience while studying abroad.
“The fair allows students to shop around. One table may only offer programs in England, whereas another table may offer programs in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, see what program fits best for them,” says Kim Algeo, Rider’s assistant director in the Center for International Education.
The fair will also have many alumni and faculty on hand to help answer any questions students have about the experience. “This allow students to chat with people who can give them inside information and speak about where they went and what it was like. It's the perfect chance for those who might be considering the idea of studying abroad to really explore the possibility, " Algeo adds.
The deadline to apply for the summer study abroad program is Feb. 15 and for the fall, the deadline is March 15. For more information, contact Kim Algeo at [email protected].
