The Fourth Annual Raise Your Game Athletics Fundraising Challenge raised the bar again for Rider’s Department of Athletics. The 2013-14 challenge generated the greatest number of donors and most total dollars compared to any of the previous challenges.
The Rider men’s soccer team was a first-time winner in the competition and won the $6,000 first place prize.
"I am really proud of our Rider Soccer alumni and how they came through to help our program,” says head coach Charlie Inverso. “During the challenge, I spoke to many alumni personally and all of them are excited and believe the future of our program is very bright."
The men’s soccer team held off both the field hockey team and the wrestling teams to finish at the top of the standings. For its second place finish, the field hockey team was awarded a $4,000 second place prize, and for its third place finish, the wrestling team was awarded a $2,000 third place prize. In addition to its first place finish, the men’s soccer team had the largest improvement in former athlete participation, and was awarded a $1,000 Most Improved team prize. Men's soccer had the most alumni donors ever for a team in the Raise Your Game Challenge, including 30 first-time donors to Rider.
“I want to congratulate the Men’s Soccer team for their terrific fundraising year and the other winning teams in the fourth-annual Raise Your Game Challenge,” Director of Athletics Don Harnum says. “We appreciate the continued commitment of our Rider athletic alumni to the challenge, and recognize how important they are to the success of our teams and the Athletic Department. Their support makes a big difference for our current and future athletes.”
Participation points in the Raise Your Game Challenge (RYG) are earned by each program based on gifts by former athletes of at least $25. The prize money will be utilized for equipment, uniforms, travel, etc.
