A team of Rider University business students recently competed in the Supply Chain Management Case Competition at Rutgers Business School in Piscataway, N.J. This was Rider’s first year competing in the competition.
The teams were given three days to analyze a 30-page case detailing the dire energy and economic crisis in Pakistan and form a solution based on the information provided. On the day of the competition, teams were given 20 minutes to present and five minutes for questions and answers. The judges, consisting of supply chain executives from various companies, evaluated the teams based on analysis, recommendation and presentation.
The Rider team was composed of Joshua Frake ’13, a Global Supply Chain Management major; Michele Prostak, MAcc ’13; Tara Sochalski ’13, a Global Supply Chain Management major; and Elizabeth Williams ’10, M.B.A. ’12.
“It was a proud moment for Rider University to witness the outstanding performance of the Rider team in the Rutgers competition,” said team adviser Bob Murray, adjunct professor of Global Supply Chain Management and chair of REM Associates of Princeton, Inc. “Their organization, presentation, attention to detail, and comprehensive approach to the issues and requirements for the case made us all very proud to be a part of the Supply Chain Management program. Congratulations to a great team.”
Rider competed against six other universities, including Penn State University, which received first place; the University of Maryland, which received second place; Lehigh University; New Jersey Institute of Technology; Rutgers University and Syracuse University.
“This global supply chain case competition was an awesome experience, and I am extremely proud of the way our team pulled together and brought our strengths to represent Rider in this competition,” Williams said. “We learned so much and had so much fun and put all of our energy for three days into doing our best work.”
Following the presentations and the awards ceremony, the students had a chance to network with other teams and representatives from AstraZeneca, Bayer HealthCare, Colgate-Palmolive, Deloitte Services, Estee Lauder, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Pfizer, Tyco International and Verizon.
