The landing page of Rider University’s newly redesigned website has been selected as an official honoree in the category of Best Home/Welcome Page in the 15th Annual Webby Awards, the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
Established in 1996, the Webbys are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which includes an executive 750-member body of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities, and associate members who are former Webby Award winners and nominees and other Internet professionals.
Rider’s recognition as an honoree for Best Home/Welcome Page makes it one of just 10 organizations distinguished as such, qualifying it as one of the very best on the Web in the eyes of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. With nearly 10,000 entries received from all 50 states and more than 60 countries, its official honoree distinction places Rider among the top 10 percent of all work entered. Rider is credited as an honoree along with Second Melody, the creative studio who worked with the University to redesign the site.
Aside from official honoree designation, each category is also topped by five nominees, which will ultimately vie for a Webby Award and be eligible to compete in the People’s Voice Award, to be announced on May 3 and presented at the 15th Webby Awards on June 13.
Along with Best Home/Welcome Page, the Webbys feature more than 70 website categories. “Some are beautiful to look at and interact with. Others are a testament to usability and functionality. And a handful excel across the board. To be selected among the best is an incredible achievement worthy of praise,” according to the Webby Award site, http://www.webbyawards.com. “As a result of the superior quantity and quality of sites entered, the 15th Annual Webby Awards recognized sites and teams that demonstrated a standard of excellence.
Recognition by the Webby Award puts you in the esteemed group of industry leaders such as Amazon.com, eBay, Yahoo!, iTunes, Google, FedEx, BBC News, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, NPR, Mashable, Facebook, Twitter, The New Yorker, Wikipedia, Flickr, ESPN, Comedy Central, PBS, The Onion News Network, The Office Webisodes, TED.com, and NASA. The New York Times calls the Webby, “The Internet’s highest honor.”
