Pulitzer Prize Winner Jon Meacham Will Present Rider’s 9/11 Remembrance Address

Rider University’s annual 9/11 commemoration, Peaceful Tomorrows, will be highlighted by a keynote address by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Jon Meacham on Tuesday, September 11, at 6 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Meacham, an executive editor at Random House and a former editor of Newsweek magazine, will present an address entitled Reflections on September 11, 2001: How has the world changed and what have we learned? An accomplished historian with a deep knowledge of politics, religion and current affairs, Meacham won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 2009 for his book American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, detailing the presidency of “Old Hickory,” the nation’s seventh chief executive. His forthcoming volume, Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, is due to be published by Random House in November. Meacham is also the author of two additional New York Times bestsellers.

A regular panelist on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Meacham has also appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press and The Colbert Report on Comedy Central. He was elected to the Society of American Historians in 2009, and serves on the Board of Trustees for The Churchill Centre, the national Advisory Council of the John C. Danforth Center on Religion & Politics at Washington University in St. Louis, and on the advisory committee of the Center for the Constitution at Montpelier, the Virginia estate of President James Madison.

Meacham was named national affairs editor by Newsweek just months after joining the staff in 1995, and became the publication’s managing editor in 1998 at the age of 29. He was promoted to editor of the weekly in 2006 and held the post until his resignation in 2010. Besides Newsweek, Meacham has written for The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, Slate and The Los Angeles Times Book Review.
