Senior Fine Arts major Matthew Cintron will host an opening reception for his Senior Honors Thesis Exhibition on Thursday, April 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Rider University Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the Bart Luedeke Center. All members of the Rider community are welcome to attend this free reception. The exhibit will continue in the Art Gallery through Monday, April 25.
The exhibit, a collection of 33 charcoal sketches, oil paintings and ink illustrations, highlights Cintron’s student work in the Fine Arts program at Rider. The West Windsor, N.J., resident says the works show his artistic growth through his drawing, such as the progression of his plane and lines, to his painting. The works are selected from Cintron’s class work in his Senior Honors Thesis program with Deborah Rosenthal, professor of Fine Arts. Together, Cintron and Rosenthal selected the pieces that hang in this exhibit, and virtually all of the chosen works were completed in the class.
“This exhibition represents a terrific culmination of Matthew’s work,” said Rosenthal, who said she had overseen approximately 25 such Senior Honors Thesis projects since her arrival at Rider in 1989. Cintron’s work in the course also included an essay that Rosenthal said was a meditation on his work, and its direction.
In addition, a number of Cintron’s sketches from his spring trip to China are on display in the BLC Lobby and waiting area, outside the Cavalla Room.
