Rider’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, welcomed 76 new future teachers into its ranks at its annual initiation and installation of officers on April 27 in the Yvonne Theater. Chapter officers for the 2013-14 academic year were also installed at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Current KDP co-presidents Christina Eugene ’13 and Sarah Sell ’13 welcomed the new inductees, who must be in good academic standing, with at least a 3.0 GPA, attend two meetings and two service events, and have completed at least 30 credit hours in the Education curriculum.
Rider’s Kappa Delta Pi chapter, known officially as Alpha Beta Theta, was introduced to the Lawrenceville campus in 2003, and has since steadily grown to be one of the most active and influential student organizations at the University. Not only does the society wield an active community service profile, participating annually in Walk Now for Autism Speaks and Rider’s Relay for Life event, but members have also been active in becoming better teachers and teacher candidates through a variety of professional development events.
The event had particular significance this year, as Rider’s School of Education celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Chapter officers for the 2013-14 academic year will be:
Presidents: Dominique Pesco ’14 and Kristin Sarboukh ’14
Vice President: Cheyenne Trimmer ’14
Secretary/Membership Chair: Kaitlyn Rokita ’15
Treasurer/Service Chair: Kristin Hill ’14
Public Relations: Lindsey Hegenauer ’14
Historian: Jennifer Smolyn ’14
