The Undergraduate Travel Grant Program provides funds toward registration, travel and/or housing for undergraduate students in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences to present their research at professional meetings.
by Meaghan Haugh
Each year, students from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences represent the University when they present independent research at regional, national and international meetings. In order to alleviate financial costs associated with travel expenses, the School established the Undergraduate Travel Grant Program during the 2010-2011 academic year.
The program, sponsored by Dr. Patricia Mosto, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Sciences, provides funds each year of up to $500 towards registration, travel and/or housing for SLAS undergraduate students to present their research at a professional meeting in their discipline.
During its inaugural year, 12 grants, totaling more than $4,000, were awarded to 15 different students from the departments of Behavioral Neuroscience, English, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and Psychology. Because of these grants, students were able to represent Rider University at the 40th Annual Meeting of Neuroscience; 2011 Sigma Tau Delta Conference; 96th Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of America; 2011 Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society; 2011 Joint Meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Ecological Society of America and the New Jersey Academy of Science; 82nd Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association; 2011 Mid-Atlantic Regional Society for Developmental Biology and the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association
