Diane Campbell, assistant professor-librarian in Moore Library, and Dr. Ronald Cook, professor of Entrepreneurial Studies, are co-recipients of one of the 2011 Emerald Research Grants.
This is one of two grants, administered by the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and generously funded by Emerald Group Publishing, Inc., each providing $5,000 to support research pertaining to business reference.
Campbell and Cook will use their research grant to interview entrepreneurs about their environmental scanning practices and will provide information on how these entrepreneurs work with librarians and what information they consider most important. Entrepreneurs interact with a wide range of librarians, including public, academic and special librarians, but very little has been studied about their opinions of and interactions with librarians.
“The research by Campbell and Cook is important on several accounts, and not least for demonstrating the role business reference librarians play in supporting entrepreneurship and small business development and engaging in collaborations with the business community. Emerald is proud to sponsor this research and looks forward to its outcome,” said Eileen Breen, Senior Publisher at Emerald.
The award will be presented at the RUSA Awards Ceremony and Reception on Sunday, June 26, in New Orleans during the ALA Annual Conference.
