Trent Shelton, a former National Football League wide receiver who has become one of the nation’s most renowned motivational speakers, will present Rehabilitation of the Body and Mind to students at Westminster Choir College on Thursday, April 5, at 6 p.m. in Talbott Library Room 1. The event is free and open to all.
Shelton, who played wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts, the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins, is the founder of the Rehab Time Organization, a worldwide institution for positive change that not only aims to help people improve their lives, but the lives of others, as well. In late 2011, Shelton was named to Under30CEO.com’s “Top 50 Most Motivational People on the Web,” checking in at No. 20 on a list that also included Oprah Winfrey at No. 1, the Dalai Lama at 17, and Bill Gates at 21.
“Through the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship, great business owners find ways to keep themselves motivated,” Under30CEO.com explains. “Luckily for us, in the 21st century, some of the greatest leaders of the world have poured themselves into online content to help inspire us on a daily basis.”
Though Shelton was one of a relative few to make an NFL roster, he says that he “always believed in life after sports,” which spurred him to found the Rehab Time Organization.
As he explains on his site, TrentShelton.com, Shelton felt a change was needed within his mind, body and soul. He experiences what he calls “an epiphany,” telling himself, “Today, I’m getting rid of everything toxic in my life, and I want to give back to God.”
Shelton committed himself to improving the health and capacity of his own body, and dug deeper into his Christian faith. He started to publicly post videos and blogs on blogtv.com, as well as other sites, about his experiences.
“What originally started as a way to help himself get through his life’s trials and grow quickly turned into a wave that grew to affect more and more lives,” according to his site. “Under the Rehab Time umbrella, Trent has created multiple free workout groups, written a book, and has had many speaking engagements. Growing up a preacher’s son, Trent is well-grounded in scripture and it adds to his effectiveness as a speaker. He continues to spread knowledge, motivation, and give leadership advice on the web. Every day he inspires thousands of people online, and in his everyday life.”
