Rider’s political institute will also host such political notables as Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono, top Republican strategist Steve Schmidt and U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance this fall.

The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics of Rider University kicked off its busy fall schedule with An Evening with the Hon. Steve Lonegan on September 24. Lonegan, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate from New Jersey, is attempting to defeat his Democratic opponent, current Newark mayor Cory Booker, in a special election on October 16. The winner of the special election will fill the seat vacated by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg in June.
In 2006, Lonegan joined Americans for Prosperity as state director of the New Jersey chapter where he continued to fight for taxpayers and achieved a number of successes. He helped defeat an 8 percent sales tax increase on the statewide ballot, and led the successful fight to stop Gov. Jon Corzine’s $38 billion toll hike.
Lonegan is the first of four prominent members of the political landscape the Rebovich Institute will welcome over the course of the fall.
This fall, the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will also welcome:
- New Jersey state Sen. Barbara Buono, Democratic candidate for governor, Tuesday, October, 22;
- Steve Schmidt, senior adviser to the McCain for President campaign in 2008, and current MSNBC political analyst, on Tuesday, November 12; and
- Republican U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance of New Jersey’s 7th Congressional district, on Thursday, December 5.
