Robert Colavita '91, '05 is also a school district business administrator/board secretary
Robert Colavita '91, '05 was named first vice president of the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials for the 2019-20 school year. The association promotes the highest standards of ethics and efficiency in public education and provides members with professional development opportunities and other support.
Colavita received a bachelor’s in business administration and master's in educational administration/school business administration from Rider and is currently the business administrator/board secretary for Hopewell Valley Regional School District in New Jersey. He began his career with the district in 2002 as an assistant business administrator. He was promoted to business administrator/board secretary in 2007.
Rider's business programs have a long history of developing graduates with the skills and hands-on experiences organizations prize. The University is also one of only 2 percent of all universities worldwide to hold prestigious AACSB International accreditation in both business and accounting.
Colavita, who received a second master's, in teaching, from The College of New Jersey, has previously worked as a second-grade teacher for the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District and as a fourth-grade teacher for at the Bernards Township School District.
Colavita also has experience in private industry. He worked with the Amerada Hess Corp. as a corporate accountant and for the Haagen-Dazs Corporation as plant controller when the facility was located in Woodbridge, N.J.
Colavita has served on budget and conference committees for the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials, or NJASBO. He has been a frequent presenter and panelist at NJASBO and New Jersey School Boards Association workshops and conferences. He is a past president of the Mercer County Association of School Business Officials and a five-time recipient of ASBO International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. He also has been recognized by the Hopewell Valley Recreation Foundation for his hard work and efforts in support of its mission.
Colavita lives in Yardley, Pa., with his wife, Kathy, and two children, John and Caroline. In his off-hours, he spends time assisting his father in the management of the family’s Christmas tree farm.
