Rushae Glover to participate in Global Operations Leadership Development after graduation
by Rachel Stengel '14
Rushae Glover likes to make the most of her time. As a triple major in global supply chain management, international business and marketing, she was able to hold numerous leadership positions around campus, participate in an internship and a co-op, experience a semester studying abroad in Australia, earn her Six Sigma yellow belt and secure a full-time position within Johnson & Johnson’s exclusive Global Operations Leadership Development (GOLD) program after graduation.
Glover aspires to become a leader within the business industry and knew she needed to absorb as much as possible from her educational experiences to ensure that upon graduation that she will be prepared to achieve her lofty goals.
"One of my goals is to become the CEO of a company," she says. "While in school, I made an effort to learn as much as I could about various aspects of business, so I can enter whichever niche of the business industry that best suits me."
Johnson & Johnson's GOLD program helps recent graduates accelerate their career growth within the organization through a two-and-a-half-year program designed to expose them to various aspects of global supply chain management. Participants in the highly selective program combine classroom and online training with rotational job placements focused on their interests. Upon Glover's successful completion of the program, she will move into a higher-level leadership position within Johnson & Johnson's Supply Chain Enterprise.
"This program will help elevate my leadership skills, which allows me to be exactly what I want to be — a leader in my field," she says.
Glover participated in a seven month, full-time co-op with Johnson & Johnson from January 2017 to July 2017, while still taking classes at night. Though the co-op was housed in the global supply chain area, Glover was able to work on additional projects related to her marketing and international business majors such as performing market research and interacting with international business partners. She says Johnson & Johnson truly treats its co-op students like employees, which helped her career development.
"One day you might be running a meeting and the other you may be running a site tour. However, it was opportunities such as those that added value to my growth," she says. "They made it so easy to immerse yourself into their culture. It was such a fast-paced environment that encouraged innovation, and I am so appreciative that I was able to experience not only supply chain, but other aspects of Johnson & Johnson's business. It was where I saw my three majors come to life."
Applying for a spot in Johnson & Johnson's GOLD program was a strenuous process, but Glover made sure her name was in the running no matter what, even if she was 14 hours away. The day after she finished her co-op, she flew to Australia to spend a semester abroad. It was during her six months abroad that she was interviewed via Skype and selected for the GOLD program.
"Only a few people out of thousands of applicants get into it the program and I believe I was one of the first to be video interviewed," she says. "I am excited to be in the GOLD Program because it is a great opportunity for me to continue working for a company I love as well as gain the knowledge and experience that I will need to thrive in whichever area of the Johnson & Johnson business that I would like to further pursue professionally."
