Marketing and business majors inducted into Mu Kappa Tau and Alpha Mu Alpha
by Louis Pernet '16
On April 27, 37 College of Business Administration students were inducted into Mu Kappa Tau, the national Marketing Honor Society, and 13 students into Alpha Mu Alpha, Rider’s chapter of the American Marketing Association. The event took place in the Fireside Lounge in the Bart Luedeke Center.
The evening kicked off with the Department of Marketing, Advertising, & Legal Studies’ Advisory Council meeting. Twice a year, this formal meeting provides opportunities for dialogue among faculty, students, advisory council members and administration members at Rider.
Dr. Darrell Bartholomew, an assistant professor, welcomed the students and introduced the sponsors and the members of the faculty present at the event, including Dr. Larry Newman, association professor; Dr. Anubha Mishra, department chair; Dr. Ira Sprotzer, associate professor; and Dr. Cynthia Newman, associate dean. Dr. Elad Granot, dean of the College of Business Administration, was also present to congratulate the students for their accomplishments. The event was sponsored by Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company, Fastenal, TEKsystems, Liftec Inc. and Northwestern Mutal.
Christopher Fazzini, executive vice president at Reliance Standard Life Insurance, also spoke, emphasizing the importance of good communication and expressing his impression of the students. "As we have worked to recruit on campus, I have been impressed with the caliber of students, their desire to succeed and the inquisitive nature they have brought to the process," he said. "Rider's rise in national and regional rankings over the last few years are well-deserved.”
Brandon Weinberg of Bankers Life & Casualty Company and a member of the Marketing & Advertising Advisory Board also expressed his positive impression of the CBA students. “I find them well-prepared at career fairs, job interviews and in the classroom," he said. "A candidate that is prepared is one I want to hire. That’s a Rider student.”
After the Advisory Board meeting, Samantha Rutowski, president of the Mu Kappa Tau Rider chapter and Jacqueline Deleon, president of the Alpha Mu Alpha Rider chapter, had the inductees take their pledge.
“I am thankful to be given the honor of being inducted into both the Mu Kappa Tau and Alpha Mu Alpha organizations on campus,” Rutowski said. “ I know my senior year is going to be filled with great memories shared with my fellow members”
To be nominated for induction into MKT or AMA, marketing junior and senior students needed to have a 3.25 GPA or higher.
