The College of Business Administration, Global Supply Chain Management Program and Executive Center for Education and Development will present a one-day symposium, Managing the Challenges of Global Supply Chain and Logistics Networks on Friday, April 8, 2011. The symposium is geared toward supply chain and logistics analysts, managers and executives, and academic supply chain and logistics colleagues. Students in Rider’s Global Supply Chain Management program will also be in attendance.
The symposium will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Fireside Lounge in the Bart Luedeke Center on the Lawrenceville campus, 2083 Lawrenceville Road.
Supply chain management, one of the fastest growing fields today, includes the steps a company takes to transform raw materials and components into a delivered final product and service, including sourcing, and acquiring, conversion and logistics management.
In this one-day symposium, attendees will hear and learn from a number of expert supply chain practitioners with a variety of experiences and perspectives on logistics and supply chain management. Attendees will receive a broad set of perspectives and insights on some of the key issues in operating supply chains in the 21st century.
Tan Miller is the director of Rider’s Global Supply Chain Management Program, which launched in the fall 2009. The interdisciplinary program is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and practical experience necessary to enter the profession and ultimately become leaders in the field.
“We are excited to host this professional symposium which will highlight our Global Supply Chain program,” Miller said. “The symposium will address key issues facing supply chain professionals, including the importance of collaboration between different firms on supply chains, approaches for organizing and managing a firm’s supply chain, capabilities needed to ensure the efficient movement of shipments across international borders, and techniques for assuring supply chain alignment and coordination on a firm’s internal and external supply chain.”
The symposium will feature features several speakers with responsibilities for organizing supply chain and logistics initiatives for entire industries, and providing training on customs and import-export operations. Speakers will include: Joe Andraski, president and CEO of VICS (Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions) Association; Ken Colbert, Vice President of Global Logistics, Church & Dwight Co., Inc.; Robert Nardone, Managing Partner, Sylvanwood Associates LLC; Suzanne Richer, president, Customs & Trade Solutions, Inc.; Larry Smith, vice president of Global Supply Chain, Becton, Dickinson and Company; and Kevin Stout, executive director of Medical Device Supply Chain Council. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet faculty from Rider’s business programs in Marketing, Computer Information Systems and Global Supply Chain Management.
