Likely candidate for New Jersey governor to speak on Rider’s campus
by Michelle Wood
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will present “The Road to Trenton Runs Through Rider: An Evening with Hon. John Wisniewski” on Thursday, Dec. 3.
The event with the New Jersey Assemblyman and likely candidate for governor will begin with a light reception at 6 p.m., followed by remarks at 7 p.m. and a question-and-answer feature with the audience. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Mercer Room in Daly Dining Hall on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus.
“We are committed to hosting the possible major party candidates for governor and John Wisniewski is certainly one of them,” says Dr. Benjamin Dworkin, director of the Rebovich Institute. “He’s also playing a leading role on issues such as the Bridgegate investigation and transportation funding.”
Wisniewski has served for more than 20 years in the State Assembly and has been heavily involved with many different legislative efforts throughout the years. He was the assistant majority leader from 2002–2003 and the deputy minority conference leader. He currently serves as deputy speaker, as well as chairman of the Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee and as a member of the Environment and Solid Waste Committee. Since 2000, he has also chaired the state Fire Safety Commission.
Wisniewski has been working towards equipping all buildings with sprinkler systems and fire safety essentials. In addition, he is introducing a real fire safety curriculum to New Jersey public schools to educate the upcoming generation critical safety precautions and procedures during an emergency.
Today, Wisniewski is actively considering a campaign for governor of New Jersey in 2017. A Sayreville native, Wisniewski received his Bachelor of Arts in English and Economics from Rutgers University and his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law. He is a lawyer and managing partner of Wisniewski & Associates, Inc.
