The advertising professor's talk was part of the ongoing Faculty Lecture Series.
Rider’s Faculty Lecture Series continued when Dr. Michelle Amazeen, former assistant professor of Advertising, presented Fact-Checking: It’s Not Just for Politics on April 2 in the Mercer Room of Daly Dining Hall.
Amazeen’s research interests primarily involve advertising and “disinformation” – intentionally false or inaccurate information that is spread deliberately. In her work, she has examined the prevalence of inaccuracies in political advertising and how political actors are held accountable for their claims. She has also explored the authenticity of strategic communication efforts in the mediated information environment, including the alignment of corporate social responsibility campaigns with advertising.
The Faculty Lecture Series has been re-envisioned to facilitate greater participation from across the University. The series now features one speaker each from the College of Business Administration, the liberal arts, the sciences and mathematics, education, the School of Fine and Performing Arts, and Westminster Choir College over the course of an academic year. The goal is to create an ongoing and inclusive dialog of intellectual engagement.
Amazeen joined the CBA faculty in the fall of 2012 after earning a Ph.D. in Mass Media and Communication from Temple University. She also received master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Advertising from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has more than 10 years of industry experience in marketing and advertising.
