Young Rider Alumni Share Their Outcomes of a Rider Education

Each spring, as millions of high school seniors pare down their lists of college choices, they also tighten their focus on their future. They want to know: what is this institution going to do for me?

These students have spent the last year sifting through admissions materials and taking visits to campuses, but now they might need that last push; that knowing, experienced opinion that might make their choice crystallize. At Rider, dozens of recent graduates are explaining exactly how they benefited from their education at the University through a new microsite, Outcomes of a Rider Education.

“In today’s economic climate, we are often asked about the job placements of our recent graduates,” said Tara Laposa, a user experience consultant who directed the development of the site. “Many conversations with parents and students often include the topic of employment and how Rider will help them achieve professional success after graduation.”

To that end, the Outcomes of a Rider Education website tells that story, in the voice of more than 40 recent graduates from the University.

“It delivers a view into alumni outcomes through video and written profiles that showcase experiences common amongst many of our graduates,” said Laposa of the personal sketches that help tell the Rider story.

The offices of Admissions and University Communications spent the summer and fall of 2012 exploring potential profile candidates, taking many recommendations from our faculty and administration. During the winter, the selected alumni lent their time to phone and in-person interviews, including photography when appropriate, as well as video production in order to complete the project.

“The focus for us was on the story and the strength of the academic and professional experience at Rider,” Laposa explained. “Over the next year, we’ll profile additional alumni that extend beyond the recent graduate category in an effort to continue telling Rider’s story.”
