Dr. Kim Chandler Vaccaro is artistic director of the production and choreographer for two works.
Rider Dances, Rider University’s annual dance performance featuring Rider students, will look at the many ways dance interfaces with our lives. Performances will be Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in the Theater in the Bart Luedeke Center.
Dr. Kim Chandler Vaccaro is artistic director of the production and choreographer for two works. Other choreographers are Merli V. Guerra, Laney Engelhard, Julie Johnson Thick, Jennifer Gladney and Justin Dominic Melvin. Hosts for the program are Josiah Jacoby and Gabriela Alter. The program will also include a film created by student Rose Conroy-Voza.
Reflecting on the program, Dr. Vaccaro says, “Every dance is an ethnic dance in that it is generated from the values, aesthetics, mythologies and symbolism of the time and culture in which it is created. RD2020 makes connections between the dance genres and points out the distinctiveness of each community. The particular motivation of a dance dictates its shapes, rhythms, dynamics and vocabulary. What the communities share is passion, discipline, energy, attention to detail and common kinesthetic delight.”
Tickets for the performance are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $5 for Rider University students with a valid Rider ID. To purchase, contact the Box Office at 609-896-7775 or order online.
