2023 Summer Institute
CONNECT-ED: Developing & Using System Models to Make Student Thinking Visible
July 25 - 27, 2023, 8:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
During this summer institute, participants will us data and Core Ideas to develop system models to explain phenomena. Together we will explore how and why student models make student thinking visible, support students in building a conceptual framework, and monitor their own learning (the three Principles of Learning***). We will reflect on how to represent components at different scales, their interactions, and the transfer of energy in system models and how this supports students as they construct explanation for phenomena. At the conclusion of the Institute, participants will develop models to explain a phenomenon of their choice to be used with their own students. Although the Institute is geared towards teachers of grades 5-12, it is open to teachers of all grades who would like to learn more about system models and how they make student thinking visible.
