President of Penn Medicine Princeton Health joins Rider University Board of Trustees

Barry S. Rabner, president and CEO of Penn Medicine Princeton Health, has joined Rider University's Board of Trustees. Rabner will serve on the Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management and Facilities Committees of the Board.

Dell’Omo, Ph.D. "Barry's comprehensive experience in leading and expanding health care institutions will be a huge asset to the Board, especially in light of the growth in health care-related programs at Rider."

Rabner has served as Princeton Health’s president and CEO for more than 15 years. The non-profit health care system includes five entities and nearly 50 locations that provide acute inpatient care, behavioral health, rehabilitation and home care services. The system operates with nearly 3,000 employees and more than 1,300 physicians. Under Rabner’s leadership, Princeton Health is also developing the $1.2 billion, 171-acre healthcare campus in Plainsboro, N.J., where the hospital is located.

On Jan. 1, 2018, the system became part of Penn Medicine, which is one of the world's leading academic medical centers, dedicated to the related missions of medical education, biomedical research, and excellence in patient care. Penn Medicine consists of the Raymond and Ruth Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (founded in 1765 as the nation's first medical school) and the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

Last spring, Rabner used his extensive health care operations experience to provide an insightful and practical view of health care systems as an adjunct instructor at Rider. He taught a special topics course in the University's health care management program. His course challenged students to understand the factors that drive the rapid change in health care delivery, and predict what hospital systems will look like in the future.

Rabner holds bachelor's degrees in zoology and chemistry from the University of Maryland, a graduate degree in French language and civilization from L’University de Paris du Sorbonne and a Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University.  Rabner frequently speaks and writes about healthcare planning, design, project management and hospital operations internationally. He and his wife Amy live in Skillman, N.J., and have two children. Their son, Marc, is a pediatrician and their daughter, Dara, is a teacher who received her master’s degree from Rider University.
