Nine Rider seniors are honored with an award
by Sam Rivera '15
On Sunday, Feb. 22, an elite group of college students nationwide were inducted into Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Among them were 39 Rider students ranging in majors from elementary education, psychology, finance, theater, sacred music and numerous others.
Each year, Who’s Who selects students based on their grade point averages, leadership positions in school organizations and community outreach participation. The program honors upperclassmen and graduate students who exemplify high academic achievement alongside engagement outside of the classroom.
This year, the eligible members were invited by Rider a ceremony at Green Acres Country Club to celebrate their successes.
For Adam Rivera, communications major, the honor was much more than a certificate. "This means a lot to me," he says. "It's inspiring that the university recognizes the years of hard work. This year, they went above and beyond which was nice to make people feel appreciated and respected."
Casey Gale, a dual major in journalism and American studies, felt similarly about the ceremony. "Being listed in Who's Who is a great honor that means my hard work in academics and extracurricular activities is being recognized, " she explains. "After working my entire academic career to reach this point, it feels great to be be named alongside individuals I consider to be some of the smartest and most talented Rider students."
Gale hopes the university continues the program since it "celebrates hard work and achievement."
