The Information Desk is the central service point for answering reference questions and for obtaining individual assistance using the following Library resources and services:

The Sierra System features an online public access catalog that allows users to search the catalog, check on the availability of books, periodicals, videos, & government documents, and search Internet information resources, including library catalogs around the world. Sierra also allows access to many of the Library's electronic databases, available through the University Campus Network, as well as the holdings of the Talbott Library (Westminster Choir College of Rider University) located in Princeton, NJ.

Electronic Periodical Databases include major subject indexes in the social sciences, education, business, and science, along with federal and state government resources. Some of these information resources are only available in-house on the Library's Local Area Network computers in the Reference Area.

Internet Resources may be accessed through computers in the Reference Area. Students can use their Easypass accounts to access these services from off campus.

Online Database Searching provides access to databases that the Library does not own. Students may schedule appointments to have online searches done at no charge to them.

Research Instruction is provided to individuals and groups in order to develop research skills and the ability to work with the many Library resources available at Rider University's Moore Library. Advance appointments are encouraged. The Library provides instruction in Internet and database searching techniques.

The LAN/Reference Area has computer workstations that provide access to the Internet. These workstations grant entry to our Library's' home page for electronic access to dozens of databases.

The Library Presentation Center is a versatile instruction facility which is used by librarians and other faculty for multimedia presentations, satellite reception of programs, database and Internet demonstrations, and video presentations to large classes. A large-screen projector and sound system provide high quality presentations.

The Riderana Collection is the repository of documents, photographs, artifacts, yearbooks, catalogs, and other items on the history of Rider University from the 1860’s to the present. Riderana also houses Rider faculty publications, rare books, the Leslie shorthand and Lloyd typewriting collections, as well as a collection of vintage typewriters. These special collections are available as a resource to students, faculty, staff, and the general scholarly community. None of this material circulates.

The Video Collection contains videos and tapes that are coordinated with the curriculum. Selections are based upon faculty request. Videos and tapes may be checked out on a short-term basis by students, faculty, and staff.

The ERIC Document Collection is the entire Educational Resources Information Center document collection on microfiche. The ERIC database provides comprehensive access to this valuable educational resource.

Reserves are required readings, syllabi, and sample exam files placed on reserve by the faculty and kept at the Check-Out Desk.

Check-Out Policies: Rider students, faculty, and staff may borrow Library materials. Standard loan periods are four weeks for books and three days for the audiovisual materials. Fines are charged for overdue items. Reference materials, microforms, and periodicals do not circulate.

Interlibrary Loan is provided for current Rider students, faculty and staff. Books and journal articles not included in Moore Library's collections may be requested by using electronic forms on our Library's home page. Materials at the Talbott Library may be requested at the Check-Out Desk.
