An exciting opportunity for students to experience jazz and popular music. Under the direction of Tim Brent, students will be explore many of the popular vocal styles like jazz, pop, and rock as soloists and in a group setting, while expanding their musical repertoire. Joining Dr. Brent is Tahira Clayton, an internationally known vocalist, recording and performing artist, composer, educator, and activist. Each student will learn to master their skills through private vocal instruction, jazz theory and improvisation classes, and ensemble rehearsals.

Dr. Tim Brent is a 9-time DownBeat Award-Winning vocal jazz educator, pianist, arranger, and has performed with such artists as Bobby McFerrin, Mel Torme, Ingrid Jensen, Dick Oatts as well as Latin Grammy award-winner Obie Bermudez. Prior to joining Westminster College of the Arts. At Rider University, Dr. Brent was the Director of Contemporary Voice at Miami Dade College, and Director of Vocal Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas (Denton, TX), University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA), and Northern Illinois University (Dekalb, IL).
Tahira Clayton is an internationally known vocalist, recording and performing artist, composer, educator, and activist. Her most recent accomplishments include winning the DC Jazz Prix competition with AMP Trio, earning a headlining performance at the 2018 DC Jazz Festival. She also recently won the “Most Promising Semi-Finalist” and Audience Choice awards at the Unisa International Jazz voice competition in Pretoria, South Africa.
