“Nathan Brewer encourages and demands—exactly what budding actors need in order to have success in their local school theater programs during the school year. My son has thrived under Nathan’s tutelage for six consecutive summers, and he looks forward to his last summer at Westminster before attending Ithaca College for Musical Theatre.” – Kathy D.

Westminster Conservatory Musical Theatre Programs 2020

We are thrilled to bring our popular musical theatre summer camps to your home!  Nathan Brewer and his staff are returning for their 18th consecutive summer, and have designed remote versions of these engaging and enjoyable programs.  All you will need is a device for remote learning, and our amazing teaching artists will take care of the rest!

High School Musical Theatre Intensive (grades 9-12)

The High School Musical Theatre Intensive is a pre-professional acting, singing, and dance camp.  Learn from top industry educators and grow as a performer—all from your own home!  Daily lessons will include:

  • Vocal training
  • Audition coaching
  • Dance combinations
  • Repertoire selection
  • Acting class
  • Master classes
  • Fun theatre games

Students can work on material that they bring, but may also be given a new song or monologue.   Selections will be performed for an invited live stream audience at the end of the second week.

Topics that we will explore:

  • Acting: actions, objectives, tactics, given circumstances
  • How to craft a character (using the body and voice)
  • Crafting monologues
  • Breaking down beats/script analysis
  • Transitioning acting from stage to screen
  • Cold reads
  • How to self-tape for audition submissions
  • Auditions: in person and on camera
  • Acting as a full-body experience
  • Storytelling
  • Table reads and staged readings
  • Shakespeare
  • Scene work
  • Voice for the actor (Alexander and Linklater techniques)

Students will also attend master classes with professors from leading Musical Theatre programs across the United States, and will receive feedback on repertoire for college auditions.

Students must be entering grades 9 through 12 in the fall of 2020.
