Flute Camp
Summer 2019

Dear Flute Student, 

WELCOME to Westminster Conservatory’s SUMMER FLUTE CAMP! We look forward to getting to know you and helping you develop your flute skills during our week together (July 21-27, 2019).  Flute Camp is on the campus of Westminster Choir College in Princeton. We will have both overnight campers and day campers. Though day campers are dismissed at 5:00pm, they are invited and encouraged to attend all evening flute sessions.

Required Medical Information Form
If you have not already done so, please complete the Medical Information Form and upload it to your RegOnline account or email it to the Conservatory at [email protected] before the first day of camp.  We will keep these forms on hand throughout the duration of the camp.

Schedule
Your day will include a group warm-up, technique class, master class, small ensembles, flute choir and more! The camp schedule will be as follows:

For Residential Students

  • SUNDAY, July 21
    • 1:30pm Check in to the dorm. Meet your counselor outside Cottage 8.
    • 2:00-4:00pm Meet in front of Cottage 8 for the Get Together and Placement Evaluations.  Please have something ready to play for us. If you don’t have a current solo you have prepared, then a band piece or an etude is fine.
  • MONDAY- FRIDAY, July 22 - 26
    • 7:30-8:30am Breakfast in the Dining Center
    • 9:00-9:45 Group Warm-Up
    • 9:45-11:00 Master class and Ensembles
    • 11:15-12:00pm Scale and Technique Classes
    • 12:00-1:00 Lunch in the Dining Center
    • 1:00-2:00 Enrichment Class/Flute Class
    • 2:00-3:00 Master Class/Enrichment Class
    • 3:00-3:30 Master Class Continued/Ensembles
    • 3:30-4:00 Individual Practice
    • 4:00-5:00 Flute Choir
    • 5:00 Day Camp Students Dismissed
    • 5:30-6:30 Dinner in the Student Center
    • 6:30-8:00 Evening Activities
    • 8:15-9:45 Supervised Practice/Activities
  • SATURDAY, July 27
    • TBA Breakfast
    • 9:30am Concert Warm-Up
    • 10:00-11:30 Final Concert

For Commuting Students

  • SUNDAY, July 21

Concerts and Special Events
All DAY students are encouraged to stay for evening activities.  Dinner may be purchased at the student center for $10.00.  Parents are also invited.

  • WEDNESDAY, July 24
    • 1:00-2:00pm Flute Camp Faculty Recital - All parents are invited
  • THURSDAY, July 25
    • 4:30pm Walk to Princeton Shopping Center to set up for concert
    • 5:30pm Concert at Princeton Shopping Center
    • 6:00pm Pick-Up Will Be at Princeton Shopping Center
  • SATURDAY, July 27
    • 9:30am Concert Warm-Up
    • 10:00-11:30am Flute Camp Final Concert in Bristol Chapel (WCC campus)

Important Information for the Week

  • Daily Drop Off: 9:00am outside the Cottage Building
  • Daily Pick Up: 5:00pm outside the Cottage Building
  • Lunch: Lunch is provided daily.  We will eat in the Student Center at noon
  • Snacks/Water: Please bring a water bottle every day as well as several healthy snacks
  • Cell Phones: You may carry a cell phone, but it must be on silent during classes and concerts.
  • Residential Prep List: If you are staying on campus please refer to this list.
  • Emergency Numbers: Please call the Conservatory main office at (609) 921-7104 (Office Hours: M-Th: 9AM – 9PM; F: 9AM – noon; Sat: office closed)
  • Sandy Olson cell: (732) 735-6620 Please only use this cell phone number as a last resort, as my phone is usually off during camp.
  • Problems: If an issue should occur, please speak to us directly as soon as possible so that we may help your child.

Camp Goals

  1. Embrace each student at their level, giving them tools and techniques to continue developing after camp.
  2. Encourage new friendships and group skills.
  3. Have Fun!!
