B.A. in Theatre with a Musical Theatre Concentration
Enhance your professional options by combining your passion for musical theatre with a solid foundation in theatre study and performance. This program gives you the opportunity to develop your talents - plus the added flexibility to pursue a second major or up to two minors. Students pursuing this major are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and to expand their studies in other fields.
In this dynamic four-year sequence, you will study acting, dance and voice. Your professors will nurture your talents and skills, and expose you to both the theoretical and practical aspects of musical theatre and theatre. You will join and participate fully as a member of the theatre and musical theater community with a rich tradition of excellence.
As a student in this track, you will have:
- Weekly half-hour private voice lessons
- Tap, jazz and ballet dance classes
- Weekly Musical Theatre Labs featuring notable guest arts and master classes
- An opportunity to audition for all campus musical theatre and theater productions, which include 6 main stage productions and two cabarets
- An opportunity to audition senior year to participate in a showcase in New York City, performing for industry professionals
This program is taught by the same expert faculty and features the same fundamental core coursework as Rider's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre program.
But by comparison, this concentration in Musical Theatre offers you a total of 39 elective credits (13 courses) compared to just 9 credits (3 courses) in the BFA. These electives give you the flexibility to earn a second major or up to two minors to diversify and broaden your career skills in such areas:
- Arts & Entertainment Industries Management
- Communication Studies
- Event Planning and Production
- Popular Music Studies.
- Technical Theatre
