Update
Based on ongoing state and federal recommendations to reduce the spread of coronavirus, Rider University announced that all Summer I courses would move to remote or alternative instruction. As we cannot deliver this course remotely, we are canceling it for this year. We very much hope to see you next year.
Unarmed and Rapier and Dagger
May 18 – May 24, 2020
Conducted by Fight Master Ian Rose
This 60-hour intensive will cover from the ground up the two of the most used weapons in stage combat. Basic Unarmed will train the combatant to use falls, slaps, hair pulls, chokes, punches, and kicks safely to tell compelling stories. Rapier and Dagger will train the combatant to use a rapier in the dominant hand and a parrying dagger in the other. This style of fighting, common in the 16th and 17th centuries, appears in some of the most dynamic and exciting stage fights including Romeo and Juliet and Three Musketeers. The week will culminate in a public performance and Skills Proficiency Test adjudicated by a Fight Master from the Society of American Fight Directors and invited guests. Participants must be able to commit to all training times.
