Internships provide unique opportunities for connecting the skills and theories learned in the classroom to experiences in the workplace. They also provide a chance for students to explore future career goals while earning academic credit.

Rider's Ideal Location

Rider University's ideal location with proximity to Trenton, the "Route 1" Corridor, Philadelphia and New York gives students access to a wide variety of state agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses.

    Requirements

Students must be a junior or senior with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Check the current undergraduate academic catalog for any additional departmental requirements.

    Locating an Internship

Students should contact the Internship Coordinator responsible for the area in which they are interested in doing their internship. The Coordinator can provide a list of available sites and help students prepare the necessary documents and forms to apply for the internship. If you obtain a site on your own, contact the appropriate Internship Coordinator for site approval.

Call (609) 895-5454 for a list of current internship coordinators.

    Application and Registration

All students must complete and receive the necessary approvals on an “Internship for Credit” form. This form is available in the Dean’s Office, Fine Arts 207. To receive credit, students must submit the approved “Internship for Credit” form to the Registrar’s Office by the third week of the semester in which the internship is to be taken.

    During the Internship

    • Keep a record of attendance, including dates, number of hours worked and a brief description of duties completed.
    • Work closely with the site supervisor and initiate conversations to discuss your performance.
    • Keep in contact with the Faculty Sponsor to discuss progress or experiences. It is important to inform the Faculty Sponsor of any difficulties that are encountered.
    • Keep a journal of internship experiences.

    Grading and Credits

The assignment of a grade is determined by University grading policy. Grades are assigned by the Faculty Sponsor and based on an evaluation by the site supervisor and other information as specified by the Faculty Sponsor. The number of credits earned is based on departmental policy and number of hours completed at the internship site, usually 1-4 credits.

    For Non-Credit Bearing Internships

Contact the Career Development and Success Career Services, Bart Luedeke Center Room 237, 609-896-5058 or refer to Career Services for more information on available opportunities.
