Welcome to Rider University's Weather Homepage
The Geological and Marine Sciences Department maintains a weather station atop the Science and Technology Center at Rider University. The instrument is a Davis Instruments Vantage Pro weather station which
continuously monitors weather conditions on the Lawrenceville campus.
The links to the left will display current weather data in tabular and
graphic formats, and the historical record of the same data over the
past two weeks.
Every 2.5 seconds, the station records several weather parameters including barometric pressure, outside temperature, wind direction, wind speed, wind chill factor, rainfall amount, humidity, and dew point. The weather data on this Web site are updated every 15 minutes.
Faculty member Dr. Reed Schwimmer directed the department’s purchase and installation of the station and helps maintain its operation. The initiative to install a weather station was to provide real-time weather data that not only can be used for classroom use, but can also be shared with the rest of the campus community and off campus via this Web site. “With these weather data, we can now establish and explore, in the classroom, the relationships between atmospheric processes and meteorological effects” said Dr. Schwimmer. These discussions are particularly valuable in the department’s Earth systems science, oceanography, and environmental science courses to illustrate the interactions among the different Earth systems.
