What is the housing application process for me?

Follow the informational pages pertinent to what type of student you are.As you explore the application process, you may still have questions. Contact the Residence Life Office for help.

What type of student you are:

First-Year or Transfer College Students

You are a first-year college student who will be attending a college or university for the first time OR you are a transfer student having attended a college or university after having taken at least one semester of classes at another institution and you're looking for housing.

To apply for housing as a first-time or transfer student you must follow the steps and requirements below.

Steps to Apply for Housing

  1. Submit the $200 housing deposit and $100 security deposit by May 1. We do not guarantee housing for any students that submit deposits after May 1st.
  2. Submit your housing application to the Residence Life Office.
  3. Assignment letters will be mailed in August.

Housing Requirements

To qualify for housing, you must:

  1. Have paid all your deposits by the deadline
  2. Be a full time student
  3. Be registered for classes

Returning Students

You are a current resident or commuter and are looking to apply for housing for next year.

To apply for housing as a returning student, you must follow the steps and requirements below.

Steps to Apply for Housing

All returning undergraduate students, including commuters, who pay their housing deposit by March 1 and submit their housing agreement by March 28 will be able to reside on campus.

  1. To insure payment on time, we recommend you pay in person at the cashiers office (2nd floor BLC) or make a credit card payment online by logging into MyInfo and click on iPay, then select deposits.
  2. Read and sign your housing agreement. This must be turned in at Premium Room Selection/Standard Room Selection/Greek Room Selection.
  3. Attend Premium Room Selection/Standard Room Selection/Greek Room Selection
  4. Course select for Fall 2010 by April 2 to hold your room assignment.

Housing Requirements

To qualify for housing, you must:

  1. Have paid all your deposits by the deadline
  2. Attended a room selection event. Have a proxy attend the event in your place or submit your application to the Residence Life Office prior to the event.
  3. All applicants applying for premium housing must be in good judicial and financial standing.
  4. Have course selected by April 2.

Readmitted Students

You are a readmitted student if you are returning to Rider after having taken a leave of absence.

To apply for housing as a readmitted student you must follow the steps and requirements below.

Steps to Apply for Housing

All returning undergraduate students, including commuters, who pay their housing deposit by March 1 and submit their housing agreement by March 28 will be able to reside on campus.

  1. Students readmitted to the University will be sent a letter containing the housing application.
  2. Pay the $200 housing and $100 security deposits by the deadline stated in the letter.
  3. Students will be notified once an assignment has been made.

Housing Requirements

To qualify for housing, you must:

  1. Have paid all your deposits by the deadline.
  2. Be a full time student.
  3. Be registered for classes.

Winter Break Students

The residence halls will be closing for Winter Break on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at noon. If you require housing between December 22, 2010 and January 20, 2012, please complete this application online no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8 2010.

The residence halls are closed to ALL resident students between Dec. 25, 2010 and Jan. 3, 2011

Residents approved to remain in housing between December 22 - 24, 2010 at noon will not be charged.

**Residents (except for those with church jobs) approved to remain in housing between January 4 - 21, 2011 will be charged $120 for the break stay.  Residents with church jobs, independent of status, or who live more than 10 hours away will not be charged for any portion of Winter Break.

  • December 24, 2010 - access to the halls will be disabled at noon
  • January 3, 2011 - access to the halls will resume at noon 



Summer Break Students

Any student working for or taking classes at the institution during summer session I or II.

Summer 2011 information and application for Summer Break Housing is currently not available. Check back soon for updates.
