Music editor at Alexander Street Press, Westminster alumna Liz Brown Dutton '04 will discuss her career path during this one-hour discussion.
At Alexander Street Press, a scholarly electronic publishing company that focuses on the arts and humanities, she oversees the development of 13 online music databases, works with faculty/students to identify relevant content, negotiates licenses with labels and publishers for inclusion of their material in each product, and develops new technologies to enable intuitive research in music.
While at Westminster, she saw a growing need for online access to a wide variety of primary materials in music. The development of these types of databases have allowed for greater access to a wide variety of materials – multiple students can now view and study a particular performance; teachers can easily maneuver through a video and cite a particular passage for instructional purposes. She’s committed to working with the music community to provide greater research capabilities. She credits Westminster Choir College for providing her with a strong musical background, allowing her to grow in her role in music publishing and continue to provide the best research and teaching tools for music in higher education.
