BLESS YOUR BEAUTIFUL HIDE!....Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. While some may feel that Seven Brides is misogynistic - and it may easily appear so on its surface - there is an underlying gentleness and the love for their female counterparts that endears us to these seven unlikely lovemates. Some determined anger management lessons meted out by the women including the directive that the boys "sleep in the barn with the rest of the animals," from the durable matriarch, Milly helps the boys come to understand the greatest affection they can offer is respect.
Explore the archetypical roles of women and men in this and other more traditional musical theater constructs as well as in the mid-1800's American setting of the production with Dr. Roberta Fiske-Rusciano, adjunct assistant professor of Political Science, Global Studies, Multicultural Studies, and Gender Studies at Rider University. Professor Fiske-Rusciano will lead a colloquium on the topic and how the roles of men and women have evolved (and not) in the 160 years since. We hope you'll join us for what is sure to be an engaging and enlightening discussion, and in the meantime, that you'll enjoy the rollicking songs, dance and silliness of the show.
