Rider University has a variety of additional tools installed on our Blackboad 9.1 Learn Platform. Below you will find a brief description of each as well as tools we are currently evaluating for installation.

Installed Tools

McGraw Hill Connect – If you are teaching with a new McGraw Hill textbook, you may have access to McGraw Hill Connect. McGraw Hill Connect provides instructors with seamless delivery of textbook test material to Blackboard. Once connected, your students will be taking exams on the Connect website, allowing for more robust test taking. McGraw Hill Connect then returns the results into Blackboard automatically.

SafeAssign – SafeAssign allows you to create an assignment inside of Blackboard that will check your student’s submissions for plagiarism. SafeAssign checks the document against submissions from every other university using SafeAssign.

Sharestream – Sharestream allows both video files and audio files to be streamed to your students. Sharestream also allows Faculty members to create narrated video lectures that are streamable to your class.

Wimba Classroom – Wimba Classroom is a tool teachers and students can use to meet online in a synchronous fashion. Users are able to speak, share video and documents, and type to eachother.

Wimba Pronto – Wimba Pronto is a downloadable client that provides you with the same features as Wimba Classroom without having to log into Blackboard.

Tools Currently in Evaluation

Blackboard Collaborate – Blackboard’s recent acquisition of Wimba and Elluminate has resulted in a new line of products called Blackboard Collaborate. Collaborate combines the best of Wimba and Elluminate to create a new online collaborative experience.

My Scholar by Blackboard – My Scholar is a bookmark sharing service that allows students and faculty to compile lists of educationally relevant websites. These bookmarks are both searchable and sharable with the entire Scholar system and within Blackboard.

Blackboard Learn Service Pack 6 – Blackboard has recently released an update to the Learn platform. Among numerous bug fixes, Faculty members will be able to create and share grading rubrics with students, and access items that need to be graded quicker.

Twitter Content Extension – Allows the integration of Twitter into a course.
