Big Idea Module

WHAT IS A BIG IDEA MODULE?

District Design Teams of three teachers (one elementary, one middle school, and one high school), one district curriculum administrator, and a university/industry scientist or mathematician design and present 6-hour Big Idea Modules (BIMs) that trace a big idea across the elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.

A BIM:
Engages participants in using exemplary curricula to experience the big idea at the elementary, middle and high school levels
Teaches science and mathematics content
Models the inquiry approach to teaching and learning
Makes connections: between grade levels; to other big ideas; and to other disciplines
