Environmental Health and Safety

Mission Statement

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department is responsible to insure that Rider University is in compliance with the following regulations:

  • Environmental regulations, enforced by US EPA, NJ DEP, US DOT, and includes the proper disposal of wastes.
  • Health codes, which are contained in the NJ State Sanitary Code and
  • Safety Codes, under OSHA, and the NJ Uniform Fire Code (UFC).

EHS is committed to ensuring compliance with these regulations by providing training and information to the Rider Community. An informed community is a safe community. This will reduce the risk of occupational illness, injury and damage to property.

To be prepared for both natural and man-made events, the EHS Department is involved in the continual review of our comprehensive Emergency Response Plan.

It is the goal of the EHS Department to establish a level of awareness and create a culture of compliance in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for the Rider Community.

Rider's Manager of Environmental Health and Safety is Darryl D. Blusnavage.

Darryl is shown with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was a speaker for the Rider University Theme Program presentation "Our Environmental Destiny."

Cooperative resolution of environmental issues is demonstrated in this picture of Rider Vice President for Finance Julie A. Karns with a representative of the U.S. Army, signing an agreement regarding a former ROTC facility.

Note that certain other Safety and Security matters are handled by the Department of Public Safety, under the direction of Vickie Weaver, Director. Frank Scharibone, Coordinator of Safety and Security, is responsible for Fire Safety. We work together since our areas are inter-related. Frank can be reached at fscharibone@rider.edu.
