The Yellow Ribbon Program

Through the Yellow Ribbon Program, veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and military dependent children who are entitled to the maximum benefits level under Chapter 33 (based on service requirements) can earn their bachelor’s or master’s degree, or a professional certificate at Rider tuition-free. The Yellow Ribbon Program provides additional tuition support above the annual cap at private institutions of higher learning. Rider University has voluntarily entered into an agreement with VA to fund uncovered tuition and fees above the cap. The VA and Rider each contribute 50% of all unmatched charges, up to the total cost of the tuition and fees. View Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) about the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Active duty service members and their spouses are not eligible for this program until 01 August 2022 (child transferees of active duty Service members may be eligible if the service member is qualified at the 100% rate). 

Educational Assistance Programs are separated into different categories or “chapters” that define eligibility requirements and determine benefits. Read more about the various chapters and program listed at the bottom of this page to determine which one may apply to you.

If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program.

For approved individuals, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides up to 36 months of education benefits, generally payable for 15 years or more following your release from active duty. Institutions of higher learning participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program may make additional funds available for your education program without an additional charge to your GI Bill® entitlement.
