Black History Month Activities Set for Both Campuses
“The Impact of B.L.A.C.K.” (Building Legacies Advocating
Cultural Knowledge)” is the theme of Rider University’s
month-long tribute to Black History Month on its Lawrenceville
and Westminster Choir College campuses. Activities are free and
open to the public.
Maxine Maxwell, a noted actress whose credits include “For
Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide…When The Rainbow
Is Enuf,” kicked off activities February 1 on the Lawrenceville
campus. Maxwell presented excerpts from “Echoes of the Past
& Voices of Hope,” a dramatic performance celebrating
African-American women. This past Monday, the Protestant Campus
Ministry and the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community
Service sponsored a Soul Food Dinner in Gill Chapel. Other events
during February will include:
• A Diabetes Forum on Thursday, February 8, co-sponsored
by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fireside
Lounge of the BLC on the Lawrenceville campus.
• A basketball double-header on Friday, February 9 in Alumni
Gym on the Lawrenceville campus. The Rider women vs. Niagara game
begins at 5:30 p.m.; the Rider men vs. Manhattan game at 8 p.m.
• Movie Nights on Fridays, February 2, 9, 16 and 23 at
7:30 p.m. in Seabrook Lounge on the Westminster Choir College
campus. Students will have an opportunity to view movies dealing
with the struggle for equality for all.
• Gospel Choir Concert featuring St. Benedict’s African
American Gospel Choir on Sunday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in Gill
Chapel on the Lawrenceville campus.
• A Celebration of Black Love/Poetry Night gathering on
Wednesday, February 14 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the BLC Pub on the
Lawrenceville campus;
• A Bronc Buffet “Black Trivia: Fun and Games”
Night on Friday, February 23 at Daly’s from 10 p.m. to midnight
on the Lawrenceville campus.
• First Annual Black Male Conference hosted by Rasheed-Ali
Cromwell, Esq., an associate at a Washington, D.C.-based intellectual
property law firm, and founder of The Harbor Institute, on Saturday,
February 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the BLC Cavalla Room on the Lawrenceville
campus.
• A Gospel Fest on Sunday, February 25 from 5 p.m. to midnight.
The concert will take place in the BLC Theater; dinner will follow
in the BLC Cavalla Room on the Lawrenceville campus.
• The Third Annual Black Composers’ Night Concert
on Sunday, February 25 at 7 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on Westminster
Choir College campus.
• A closing ceremony, “The Color of Music,”
co-sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on Tuesday, February
27 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the BLC Theater on the Lawrenceville campus.
Rider’s Black Student Union (BSU) and Westminster Choir
College’s Black and Hispanic Alliance (BHA) are the chief
