Sullivan's Book, Hitchcock's Music, Enjoys Intense Media Exposure

Dr. Jack Sullivan |
For the past two months, Dr. Jack Sullivan, professor
of English and director of the American Studies program at Rider
University, has enjoyed significant national and international
media exposure for his new book, “Hitchcock’s Music”
(Yale University Press 2006).
Among the numerous placements is a front page review entitled,
“Hitchcock, Thrilling the Ears as Well as the Eyes,”
in The Arts section of the January 8 issue of “The New York
Times.” It ran 74 inches from the front page to the jump
page.
Via The New York Times News Service, this review has subsequently
been printed in many others news outlets such as the “Columbus
Dispatch,” “Press-Telegram,” “San Diego
Tribune,” “Deseret News,” “International
Herald Times of France”, and the “Guardian Unlimited”
in the United Kingdom. A review has also run in “Gramophone”
magazine.
Sullivan will discuss his book with Scott Simon on National Public
Radio's Weekend Edition at 9:40 a.m. this Saturday, February 10.
In addition, he has been interviewed on several regional NPR shows
across the country.
He will also appear on a segment of New Jersey Network's State of the Arts program on Friday,
February 16 at 8:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday, February 21 at 11:30 p.m.
“I'm thrilled by all the attention 'Hitchcock's Music'
has received,” said Sullivan. “This book means a great
deal to me -- I have been haunted by Hitchcock's music ever since
I saw “Vertigo” as a boy. Given the attention the
book is getting, this music must have haunted many others as well.”
The media exposure for his new book began with local placements
in late November and then branched out to include notice of the
publishing of his book in the “Toronto Star” on December
7 and a review, “How Hitchcock fused image and sound in
his best films,” in the December 24 issue of the “San
Francisco Chronicle.”
Dr. Sullivan will speak about “Hitchcock’s Music”
on Monday, February 19 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Rider University
Art Gallery as part of the "Movies in America Guest Speaker Series."
Refreshments will be served. Sullivan's talk is sponsored by The
American Studies Program. For further information, call Dr. Cynthia
