Rider Community Scholars Reach Out to Crisis Ministry

On Martin Luther King Day, January 15, three Rider University Community Scholars, a Rider staff member and a graduate student stocked food items, cleaned and sorted donations at The Crisis Ministry of Princeton and Trenton on East Hanover Street in Trenton. The volunteers wanted to honor the memory and spirit of Dr. King on his day of remembrance. Volunteering their services were, left to right: Heather Holland, Rider's community service coordinator /Bonner program director; Melissa Melendez, a senior biochemistry major; Uchenna Duru, a junior human resource management major; and Mary Ann Somaine, graduate assistant at the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Community Service. Not pictured: Indya Murray, a sophomore elementary education/sociology major, who volunteered during the morning session.

Wanted: Orientation Student Staff Members

The Office of Orientation is accepting applications for Orientation Staff 2007. These seven students coordinate spring testing, summer orientation and fall opening. They receive a generous salary and are selected as representatives of the University for the incoming freshman class. Interested students should attend one of two information sessions on either Wednesday, February 7 at 5:30 p.m. or Thursday, February 8 at 11:30 a.m. in the BLC 257. Students can also pick up an application and ask questions by stopping in the New Student Resource Center, BLC 262, or contacting Beth Bouchard at 609-896-5373.

Bid Day

Each semester, Bid Day is held at the close of the official recruitment period for social fraternitites and sororities. This semester it is Saturday, February 17 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. outside the Bart Luedeke Center (BLC). At this time, fraternities and sororities distribute invitations to potential members and celebrate those who decide to join their chapters.

University Ball

The Fourth Annual University Ball will take place Saturday, February 17 from 6 to 11 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center (BLC) Cavalla Room. The theme of the semi-formal dinner-dance is “Venetian Gardens.” The event is open to the entire Rider University community on both its Lawrenceville and Westminster campuses - including alumni. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased Monday through Friday at the ticket booth in the BLC from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For the Ball, the booth will also be open extended hours on Monday, February 5 from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 6 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.; Wednesday, February, 7 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.; and Monday, February 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. The last day to purchase tickets is Tuesday, February 13. Bronc IDs must be shown at the door. Each Rider member can invite one guest. Non-Rider guests must present a photo ID. The disc jockey, Wes Will, will take requests.
