Open Workshop with Composer Jaakko Mäntyjärvi

Composer Jaakko Mäntyjärvi will present an open workshop
with the Westminster Choir and the Westminster Williamson Voices
on Friday, April 20 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Bristol Chapel on
the Westminster campus. Mäntyjärvi composed “Canticum
Calamitatis Maritimae,” which Westminster Williamson Voices
will perform at their concert on April 28. Admission to the
workshop is free.
Westminster Kantorei Presents “El Siglo de Oro”
(“The Golden Age”) on April 20
Westminster Kantorei, conducted by Andrew Megill, will present
“El Siglo de Oro” (“The Golden Age”)
on Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. (The originally scheduled date
was Saturday, April 21 at 8 p.m.) Spain in the 16th century
enjoyed a golden age of pre-eminence, dominating the world politically
and militarily, as well as in the realms of commerce and the
arts. This program features sacred music by three great Spanish
Renaissance masters, as well as villancicos (Christmas carols)
from Spain and the New World. The repertoire includes Victoria’s
“Missa Gaudeamus,” Guerrero’s “Motets
and Villancicos,” and Morales’ “Jubilate Deo.”

Spring 2007 Visiting Artist Series Presents Pianist
Paul Barnes on April 20 and 21
As part of the spring 2007 Visiting Artist Series, pianist
Paul Barnes will present a master class on Friday, April 20
at 7:30 p.m. in Williamson Hall on the Westminster campus. The
class will feature students of Westminster’s piano faculty.
Barnes will also give a pre-concert lecture on Saturday, April
21 at 7:30 p.m. in Bristol Chapel followed by a recital at 8
p.m. He will perform works by Pärt, Glass and Barber. He
is associate professor and co-chair of piano at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music. In great demand as a pedagogue
and clinician, Barnes has served as convention artist at several
state Music Teachers National Association conventions. All Visiting
Artist Series events are free and open to the public.
Rider Fine Arts Department to Present “The Heidi
Chronicles” April 20 and 21
The Rider Fine Arts Department will conclude its performances
of Wendy Wasserstein’s “The Heidi Chronicles,”
directed by RaeAnn Banker on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and
21 at 8 p.m. in The Yvonne Theater in the Fine Arts Building
on the Lawrenceville campus. The play has been hailed as an
enlightened portrait of a generation that charts the 1965-to-the-present
experiences of a feminist art historian and her friends and
lovers. With painful hilarity, we follow Heidi Holland through
the turmoil of the ’60s—from campaigning for Eugene
McCarthy to challenging male bias to consciousness-raising.

about the play: “Splendid humor, clear-headedness and
a healthy compassion for absurdity … This is not just

Rider Band and Rider Choir Performing on April 23
Composed of Rider University students, the Rider Band, joined
by the renowned Blawenburg Band, and the Rider Choir, will present
a concert on Monday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in The Yvonne Theater
in the Fine Arts Building on the Lawrenceville campus. The conductors
are Jerry Rife (Rider Band) and Craig Tipton (Rider Choir).

The Westminster Jubilee Singers, conducted by J. Donald Dumpson,
will present a spring concert entitled “Together in Peace”

and popular ensemble has become known ? music from the African-American
