- Curtis Blake, who retired after 14 years as director
of athletics at Rider in 2005, has been awarded the 2007 James
Lynah Distinguished Achievement Award by the Eastern College
Athletic Conference. He will be honored on September 30 at
the Sheraton Hyannis Resort in Hyannis, MA, during the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) convention. The award
is given annually to a maximum of four former ECAC athletic
administrators who have achieved outstanding success in their
careers and have made unusual contributions in the interest
of intercollegiate athletics, the NCAA and the ECAC.
- Ira Mayo, associate dean of freshmen, co-chaired the
15th Annual New Jersey Adviser's Conference held on the Rider
campus June 14. One hundred sixty-five
academic advisers from colleges across the state attended. Mayo presented
a workshop session entitled, “The Family Listserv: Putting Parents in the
Pipeline.” Tony Campbell, dean of students, presented, “The Developmental
Seminar for Undecided Students,” and Dave Oliver, chair of the department of
teacher education, presented “Our Students: Our Consumers.”
- Earle Rommel' 67, director of public relations, received
the Carl E. Kurlander Spirit of Rotary Award from the Hamilton
Township Rotary Club on June 28.The
award is presented annually to a member of Rotary or the community who best
exemplifies the spirit of Rotary in his or her personal and public life and
provides service above self to the community.
- Rider University Public Safety Department members received awards at the 2007
Annual NJ CUPSA (College and University Public Safety Association) Awards Banquet
held June 6 in Eatontown, NJ. They are: Lt. Alan Prachar - Command
Citation; Officer Albert Wharton, Sr. - Command Citation; Sgt. John Archer -
Meritorious Service Medal; Detective Ronald P. Schneck, Sr. - Campus Career
Award (20 years of service); Administrative Associate Linda Stoop - Administrative
Recognition; and Clerical Associate Maria Kosul - Administrative Recognition. The
awards banquet recognized police, public safety and staff who work in college
and university police and public safety departments throughout the state of
New Jersey. Not all who are nominated are selected for these prestigious
awards and recognitions.
