Westminster Choir College of Rider University Summer Offerings June, July and August

Westminster Choir College of Rider University will once again offer an array of summer musical offerings during the summer starting Monday, June 25, and running through Thursday, August 2. Programs range from recitals and choral concerts to hymn sings and choral reading sessions of major works. Most events, except for the Bach Festival performance on Saturday, June 30, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the Westminster campus in Princeton and are open to the public at no charge. Monday, June 25 Hymn Sing led by Nancy Wicklund, conductor, and Ken Cowan, organist; an evening of hymns composed by Erik Routley entitled “All Heaven is Singing: A Hymn Sing Celebrating Erik Routley.” In addition to hymn texts and tunes by Routley, the program will include hymns by Brian Wren, Peter Cutts and James and Kathleen Hart Brumm – all Erik’s students. Tuesday, June 26 Giselle Wyers will conduct a sing-in of a major work TBA. Scores will be provided. Bristol Chapel.

Wednesday, June 27 The Practitioners of Musick - John Burkhalter, recorder and Janet Palumbo, harpsichord - will present a concert of sonatas by George Frideric Handel, Jean-Baptiste Loeillet and Philibert DeLavign; Suite by Charles Dieupart and solo music for harpsichord composed by Francois Couperin. Bristol Chapel.

Saturday, June 30 Westminster’s annual summer Bach Festival will conclude with a performance in Princeton Theological Seminary’s Miller Chapel at 8 p.m. The participants in the Bach Festival week will present the “St. John Passion” in collaboration with Fuma Sacra and the Westminster Bach Festival Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Megill, associate professor at Westminster. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door for this performance.

Monday, July 2 Hymn Sing led by Lois Laverty entitled “Hymns for Independence Day.” American patriotic hymns and national hymns from Austria, Finland, Russia, Canada and Great Britain. Bristol Chapel.

Tuesday, July 3 Sing-in of a major work TBA conducted by Joseph Ohrt. Scores will be provided. Bristol Chapel.

Thursday, July 5 An Evening with James Jordan. Bristol Chapel.

Monday, July 9 CoOPERAtive Program Masterclass presented by Susan Shiplett Ashbaker entitled “The First Aria.” Participants in Westminster’s CoOPERAtive program for young singers perform arias. Williamson Hall.

Tuesday, July 10 Sing-in of favorite opera choruses conducted by Scott McCoy. Bristol Chapel.

Wednesday, July 11 CoOPERAtive Recital by the participants in the CoOPERAtive program for young singers. Bristol Chapel.

Thursday, July 12 Trillium Recital: flute, viola and harp trio. Bristol Chapel.

Friday, July 13 CoOPERAtive Recital by the participants in the CoOPERAtive program for young singers. Bristol Chapel.

Monday, July 16 CoOPERAtive Program Master class presented by Ted Taylor entitled “French and Bel Canto Arias.” Participants in Westminster’s CoOPERAtive program for young singers perform arias. Williamson Hall.
