University’s Bargaining Team Announced

President Mordechai Rozanski has selected the members of the University's bargaining team for upcoming contract negotiations with the Rider University Chapter of the American Association of University Professors representing the University's faculty, library faculty and professional athletic staff. The collective bargaining agreement, which was effective September 1, 2002, is scheduled to expire this August.

The team will be led by Provost Donald Steven and Vice President for Finance Julie Karns. Other members include Dean of the College of Business Administration Larry Newman, Associate Provost Jim Castagnera, Associate Director of Human Resources Mona Marder, Associate Vice President of Institutional Analysis Ron Walker, and attorney David Zurndorfer.

President Rozanski noted that Dr. Steven and Ms. Karns are joining the bargaining team at the table for the first time. He noted that “given the importance of the collective bargaining process to the University, the administration will be represented at the bargaining table by the individuals who have senior level responsibility for Academic Affairs, Finance and Human Resources.” Dean Newman will represent the academic deans in the process.

Mr. Zurndorfer has extensive experience in representing colleges and universities in faculty bargaining, including Pratt Institute, Dowling College, Bank Street College of Education, and the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He also represented the city of New York in the 2005 negotiation of the city's contract with the United Federation of Teachers.

Dr. Rozanski said, “The administration’s bargaining team reflects a good mix of in-depth experience and fresh perspective. I know the team looks forward to a collegial process that will successfully produce a new contract that values the role and contributions of Rider’s faculty and considers the University objectives in our Strategic Plan.”
