A graduating senior from Westminster Choir College of Rider University and two graduating seniors from Rider University’s Lawrenceville campus are this year’s recipients of the University’s President’s Award for demonstrating an exemplary record of academic performance, extracurricular achievement, and service to the University.

The award is presented each year to three graduating seniors, one male and one female at Lawrenceville and one senior at Westminster. Each senior received an inscribed gift commemorating the award. A photo and description of each recipient will be featured for the coming year on the Wall of Celebration in the Bart Luedeke Center. In addition, their names will be placed on a plaque that will be permanently displayed on their respective campuses.

Christian Stück, a bachelor’s degree candidate in music with a minor in arts administration, was lauded for his achievements during Westminster’s Spring convocation on April 19. Kimberly Jarosiewicz, a bachelor’s degree candidate in actuarial science and finance, and Nicholas Barbati, a bachelor’s degree candidate in political science, were recognized at the Rider University Awards Day ceremony April 28.

Christian Stück

Stück has excelled academically and has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills. He was included on the dean’s list three times and was selected as an Andrew J. Rider Scholar in 2005. He is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society for first-year students; Phi Beta Kappa Honor Key Society; and Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honorary society.

For the past four years, Stück has been actively involved in the SGA, holding leadership positions as chair of technology and the Web site, vice president, and most recently, as president. His commitment to Westminster is demonstrated in his myriad other activities, which include serving as a student member of the Westminster Academic Policy Committee, a founding member and advocate of the Rider University Creative Arts Solution Today Organization, publisher and layout editor for the “Westminster Journal,” and chair and founding member of the Westminster Glee Club.

Stück has also served the university as a representative of the student body, including, most recently, as a member of Rider’s Middle States reaccreditation subcommittee on student learning objectives, Rider’s marketing and identity committee, and the Westminster campus planning committee.

Upon graduation, Stück will attend graduate school for higher education administration. His long-term goal is to become an arts and technology advocate, leader, and innovator in higher education.

Kimberly Jarosiewicz

An exemplary leader with a stellar academic record, Jarosiewicz has participated in the Orienting Women Leaders program, the Student Entertainment Council, and by her junior year, she became the organizational affairs team leader for the Student Government Association (SGA).

Jarosiewicz sought to enrich her Rider experience by serving the University as a member of the Honorary Degrees and Academic Ceremonies Tripartite Committee, the Student Recreation Center (SRC) steering committee, and as a freshman seminar peer leader for three years. She has also participated in CREWw, the leadership development program, and helped establish Rider’s actuarial science club.

Currently senior class president, Jarosiewicz organized a fundraiser that raised more than $1,000 to help fund this year’s senior activities. Devoted to her local community, she serves as vice president of the Jamesburg Municipal Alliance, has volunteered at St. James Catholic Church, the Lawrenceville Senior Citizen Center and is a member of the Jamesburg Historical Association.

On the academic front, Jarosiewicz has excelled. Named to the dean’s list every semester since freshman year, she is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society, and is listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” Since 2005, she has worked for Rider’s admission office, providing tours to prospective students. Jarosiewicz ultimately plans to become the CFO of an insurance company. She credits the late Dr. Donald Wise, former chair of the management sciences department, as her mentor.

Nicholas Barbati

Barbati also embodies outstanding leadership and academic excellence. As this year’s vice president of the SGA, he has been highly effective in advancing Rider University and student interests both on and off campus.

During his tenure at Rider, he has been a member of Rider’s master planning committee, the marketing committee, and the Student Senate/residence life housing task force. He is currently chair of the Appeals Council, and since 2003, he has held a variety of leadership roles in the Rider Gay-Straight Alliance, during which time he created the Variety Show, a yearly benefit that has become the group’s premier event.

Off campus, Barbati has volunteered for the Bound Brook Flood Relief Cleanup, as a student mentor volunteer for Trenton’s Gregory Elementary School, and as a participant in Rider’s Midnight Run. At the same time, he was an intern in the Office of Greek Life, served as a conferences and camp assistant for Auxiliary Services, and helped with hosting 400 Italian students as they visited various landmarks and cities throughout the tri-state area. He is also the manager of Rider’s Bart Luedeke Center and served as computer lab manager for two years.

A high achiever academically, Barbati has been a participant in the Baccalaureate Honors Program since 2003, and has received the Provost Scholarship. He received the Student Senate Un-sung Hero Award in 2005 and was named to “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities” in 2006. Barbati plans to attend graduate school to pursue studies in higher education and student affairs and counseling. His long-term goal is to be a college administrator.
