Westminster Undergraduate
Student Commencement
Westminster Choir College will confer undergraduate
and graduate degrees in total at its Commencement on Saturday,
May 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Princeton University Chapel. Distinguished
by outstanding choral, organ and brass music, the pre-ceremony
music begins at 9:45 a.m. and the procession at 10:30 a.m.
The Westminster ceremony will feature the presentation
of an honorary Doctor of Music degree to Donald E. Allured, founder
of the Westminster Concert Bell Choir, Westminster alumnus Ronn
Carroll ’56 will deliver this year’s Commencement
address.
Donald E. Allured is former president of the American
Guild of English Handbell Ringers and a respected composer and
the author of several textbooks including “Mastering Musicianship
in Handbells.” In praising him, President Mordechai Rozanski
said, “The Westminster Concert Bell Choir plays an integral
role in Westminster’s sacred music program. Through the
choir members who performed under his leadership and went on to
serve churches throughout the nation, Donald Allured has helped
to strengthen countless communities and congregations.”
Ronn Carroll has had a long and distinguished career
in the theater that spans Broadway, film and television.
Carroll played Stormtrooper Mel in the 2005 film
version of the Broadway hit “The Producers,” which
is available on DVD. His recent productions on Broadway include
“Oklahoma!” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”
He’s on the original cast recordings of “How to Succeed
in Business Without Really Trying,” “The Rink”
and “Steel Pier.” His film and television credits
include “84 Charing Cross Road” and “Dawson’s
Creek.” He also serves on the Westminster Music Theater
Advisory Committee and recently led a class with music theater
majors.
“Among the students receiving degrees from
Westminster this year will be the first graduates of our new musical
theater program,” said President Rozanski. “Ronn Carroll’s
participation will be especially meaningful for the entire Westminster
community as we mark this milestone in Westminster’s history.”
