Continuing Studies and Graduate Student Commencement

Dr. James Byer, headmaster of The Hun School of Princeton for 13 years, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at Rider University’s 142nd Commencement on Thursday, May 10.

“Dr. Byer has been a creative school leader who has long held a commitment to the concept of non-traditional education for the working professional,” said President Rozanski. “In addition, under his leadership, The Hun School has seen renewed commitment to curriculum development, faculty professional growth and support, and technological innovations to support quality, private education.”

Dr. Byer, a 1962 graduate of The Hun School, served his alma mater as a teacher, administrator and coach from 1966 to 1972. A 1966 graduate of Marietta College, he left Hun in 1972 to assume teaching and administrative positions at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In 1988, he was appointed headmaster at the University School, a college preparatory school associated with Nova University. He returned to Hun as headmaster in 1994. In 1970, he earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Rider and later completed Ed.S. and Ed.D. degrees in educational administration from Nova University.

Gifts to the Van Cleve Alumni House Outdoor Patio Project will support the construction of a venue for outdoor receptions and gatherings at the Alumni House. Gifts to the Rider Fund will support a wide array of University programs and areas including student financial aid, campus improvements, and technology upgrades.
