Barry Makes Major League Debut
image of Kevin Barry Nearly every young boy playing baseball at one time or another dreams of growing up and playing in the major leagues. For the rare few, that dream comes true.

Kevin Barry ’01 became one of those few when he took the mound for the Atlanta Braves in the sixth inning at Yankee Stadium on Monday, June 26, 2006. After 5 1/2 years in the Braves’ minor league system, Barry finally made his major league debut in front of 54,226 fans in one of baseball’s historic venues.

Rider Hosts Trenton Area Writing Project
Twenty Trenton area teachers, spanning from kindergarten to high school and a daylight-twilight program, participated in a four-week Summer Institute at Rider University, this month. The institute, hosted by the School of Education at Rider, was made possible by a $43,000 grant from The National Writing Project.

Westminster Conservatory Youth Opera Workshop Presents "The Tinker of Tivoli" August 3 - 6
The Westminster Conservatory Youth Opera Workshop will present the world premiere of "The Tinker of Tivoli," a comic youth opera pastiche, in the Yvonne Theater on the Rider University campus in Lawrenceville, N.J. Performances will be Thursday, August 3 and Friday, August 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6 at 3 p.m.

In Memoriam
It is with regret that the University announces the passing of George Edward McGowan III on Friday, July 21, at Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mt. Holly. He graduated from Rider with a degree in management in 2005, was active in campus life and well-liked by students, faculty and staff. A scholarship fund at Rider University is being created in his memory. Those interested in making contributions should make checks payable to Rider University and send to the attention of University Advancement.
